2011 to 2020 was the warmest decade on record for both land and sea. In 2023, the global average near-surface temperature reached a record high, 1.45 degrees above the pre-industrial baseline.¹ Rising temperatures have led to increasingly frequent and intense weather events and the period 2000-2019 recorded over 80 percent more climate-related disasters than the previous twenty years.²
The future of current generations and those to come depends on global climate action:
Adaptation - efforts to reduce the hazard-exposure and vulnerability of populations to climate risks
Mitigation - efforts to reduce carbon emissions and mitigate future.
