The ocean is key to life on earth.
It provides livelihoods to approximately 3 billion people
The global value of marine resources is estimated at $3 trillion per year, and
It absorbs approximately 25 percent of global carbon emissions.
However, unsustainable practices are resulting in ocean pollution, habitat degradation, and rising ocean temperatures. This is putting ocean resources, and our futures, at risk. Each year
Approximately 11 million tons of plastic end up in the ocean¹
Over 10 million tons of fish are wasted annually¹ and
Rising sea levels threaten 680 million people in low-lying coastal regions. ¹
Resilient, Sustainable Equitable development across social, economic and environmental pillars is paramount.
